The Child Safety Team is a team of physicians, nurses and social workers at the Penn State Children’s Hospital who care for children when abuse is suspected. These children’s medical and social conditions can be very complicated, and it is the role of the Child Safety Team to rule out diagnoses that can mimic abuse (such as accidental trauma or inherited diseases), as well as coordinate medical care in the hospital.  The Child Safety Team also oversees outpatient follow-up, and works closely with Child and Youth services and law enforcement to make sure that children are safe after hospital discharge.

Caring for these very vulnerable patients is very rewarding, and it takes a great deal of time and dedication. If you are interested in helping to support this work by making a donation, please call 717-531-8497.

This site is sponsored by Penn State’s Center for the Protection of Children, whose goal is to prevent and treat child abuse in all its forms.
